The Anderson family immigrated to Canada in 1935. I had heard that Grandpa Anderson (William Grieves Anderson had previously been to Canada and had worked as a wall paper installer. I never knew how long and when he had gone to Canada. I came across this record of the whole family's move to Canada and found it had a record of his previous visit. Also it listed the port of leaving and arrival. Grandma Anderson often told the story of Warrick's baby carriage banging around during the trip. They had owned a baby store so they had a fancy one.
Lucille said "We (Andersons; Will 35 Grace 33 Lucille 7 Courtenay 5 Warwick 2) immigrated to Canada on the Cairnglen. The Cairnglen's Sailing record is listed on the "Canadian Government Return/Canadian Immigration Service," we left Leith, Scotland, Aug 10,1935; arriving at Montreal Quebec, August 25, 1935.
We were not classed as Canadian citizens until 1947 a special law was passed to included English immigrants. (I remember mom and dad saying it took us weeks to cross the Atlantic ocean. I remember seeing iceburgs in the ocean on the way over (14), I remember the cliffs as we entered the St Lawrence river (I am guessing) and being disappointed that I could not see Indians with their long feathered head dresses."
